Bio:
BRONTË Rose Kavanagh
OBLIVION
Name: Brontë Rose Kavanagh
Age: 32
D.O.B.: March 5, 1977
Hometown: Grand Rapids, Michigan
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Career/Job: Despite being an artist in her own right, Brontë owns a small art gallery where she exhibits her own work and that of up-and-coming young artists.
Family: Both parents live in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She has two younger sisters, Emilia (30) and Arwen (27). Ava, Arwen's twin sister, died three years ago.
Physical Description: At 5'7", Brontë is an elegant woman with beautiful features. Her eyes are an almost green hazel, and her medium-length, slightly wavy hair is brown with highlights. She dresses elegantly and loves earrings. She is a fan of dressing comfortably when she's staying in, though, and in those situations she favors tank tops and tracksuit pants along with flip-flops. She wears reading glasses (to read, obviously) that are round and slightly ridiculous, but she loves them exactly because they're silly.

history
Coming from a good, respectable family of an Evangelical Pastor and an English teacher with their own good and respectable family background, Brontë was the first of the Kavanagh sisters to be born. She doesn't remember ever being alone, however, seeing as two years after her, Emilia was born, and then Avalon and Arwen two years after Emilia. Unlike a lot of older siblings Brontë loved the idea of not being alone, and from the get go she was loving and caring to her sisters.

Brontë's childhood was uneventful and almost blissful, and it wasn't until High School that 'trouble' came along. Somewhere along the way she got into a rebellious phase of grungy clothes (or what she could get away with from her parents) and rock music; this was also when her passion for the arts first began to show, although she'd always had a talent for drawing and painting. Despite the slight hiccups with her parents (which started there and never really ended), Brontë still did not spell half as much trouble as Ava would come to spell, later.

Dead set on being an artist from the age of sixteen on, Brontë went to college to major in the Fine Arts and managed to participate in a few art shows here and there that, although without any income, helped her get noticed in the art scene of Grand Rapids and its vicinity. For a few years after getting her degree, even though she painted steadily and never got blocked, things were hard for Brontë and she had to work in other places doing other things.

Her luck changed when one of the wealthiest members of her father's church who had heard that the pastor's eldest daughter was an artist, was in the process of redecorating a few rooms in the house and asked to see what Brontë had. The lady loved it, and bought a few of her paintings and even some of her sculptures. After that, a few of this lady's friends contacted Brontë and she started selling more steadily, and one of them even arranged for her to exhibit her work at an important gallery. From then on, Brontë was even more steadily contacted for decoration jobs in both houses and offices, and it wasn't long until she was able to use her own money along with a few grants and loans to open her own gallery in Grand Rapids, where she showcases and sells her work to this day.

The only problem in an otherwise steadily rising career, was what happened to her sister Ava three years ago. The accident, caused by her drunk-driving bad seed of a boyfriend left the whole family devastated, and Brontë was no different; she can't count the days and nights she spent awake after what happened, mourning her sister's death as well as trying to take care of her family. The truth was that even if she wanted to, Brontë couldn't sleep, think or even make sense of things for a good while. After Callum's sentence was read - yet another devastating moment, knowing he had only got a year and would soon be out to enjoy the rest of his petty life while Ava was never coming back - and Arwen returned to New Zealand, which Brontë absolutely couldn't fault her for, Brontë threw herself into work and renamed the gallery. From then on it was called "Avalon", in honor and memory of her sister. It is a portrait of her, the first thing one sees walking in, and Brontë has never and will never sell it.

When things finally seemed to get on a good path again, yet another terrible thing happened to their family. Her mother was caught - by her father - having an affair with another woman; her assistant and best friend. It was the largest scandal Brontë had ever seen, at least up close, and it even lead to people leaving the church. The minute Brontë heard of it she called Arwen, and thanked the heavens that her sister was coming back. With their father vowing silence towards their mother unless it was to read from the Bible, and Emilia choosing her father's side in a very vocal and hurtful way, Brontë knew she needed some support on this one. Especially because, despite her usually calm nature, it infuriated her that neither of their parents wanted a divorce. Brontë took her mother in with no qualms, and Arwen stayed with them as well. A sigh of relief could be audibly heard from Brontë the day their father finally accepted getting some counseling with their mother, which aided their mother in admitting she had always had feelings for women, and that those 'moments of weakness' went farther back than anyone could imagine. It had also been Ava's death and the state of grief Emily had found herself in that had finally pushed her to the arms of her assistant, someone she'd fallen in love with years ago.

It broke Brontë's heart to know her mother had lived repressed and unhappy at her core for all those years, doing the things she had done simply because she was supposed to. Brontë supported her mother all the way, though not forgetting her father either, and was relieved yet again when Neil stopped trying to 'fix' Emily and they finally divorced.

In all, Brontë was happy to have Arwen back, despite all the awkwardness that ensued at family gatherings from there on out. She could handle that much better than not having yet another sister around, after all. This change also brought along the nice yearly vacations the sisters started taking together, something that Brontë cherishes very much.

After this one, if she can, she'd like to leave someone in charge of the gallery and showcase her art in New York City; it's where everything happens, after all. But, with the issue she has in not leaving her family behind, Brontë doesn't know if she can live out there as long as she'd need to to make a real impact.
personality
Although reserved, Brontë is, in reality, quite extroverted and fun. She is serious when she has to be, but loves a bit of sillyness here and there to spice things up. She is a great listener, often preferring to hear people talk than to talk about herself. However, she has an opinion on just about anything, which doesn't always mean she'll share it. Around her sisters, though, she is extroverted and funny, loving to laugh and showing sides of her most people do not get a chance to see. A very professional woman, Brontë believes something worth doing is worth doing right and will do anything in her power to be the best she can be at anything she puts herself to do.

She is a romantic at heart, and sometimes you'll spot her imagining the ideal life with the ideal man and all things nice; however she isn't hung up on the notion of finding a husband or having a family. If it happens, well that would be just dreamy. If it doesn't, then she always has her own family to take care of, anyway. Which brings us to the fact that Brontë is extremely family oriented, despite her career. When there is a problem she is there, every step of the way, for any and all family member who needs her.

Brontë is one to take charge in a crisis, be it in her family life or her job, or in any situation, even. She is soft-spoken, kind and helpful, as well as peaceful. Brontë is usually capable of transmitting a sense of calm to the people around her just because of her classy and calm demeanor.

Despite being extremely classy and a bit of a business woman, Brontë still has that artist's personality that causes her to be eccentric and look slightly otherworldly at times. Hence, the silly glasses. Infrequent though it might be, Brontë sometimes has sudden overwhelming bursts of emotion and inspiration; in those cases she needs to drop everything and paint of sculpt as soon as possible, otherwiseshe will feel trapped and cranky for quite some time.

Special Skills/Abilities: Brontë is a very good painter and sculptor. In addition to this she sometimes makes jewelry, usually earrings, but it's more of a hobbie. She also speaks French, and some time during her adolescence she learned to play the acoustic guitar. If you ask her, she can probably still play a Nirvana song or two.

Personal Weaknesses: Stranded - Brontë had always had the dream of traveling, seeing the world, meeting other artists, the works. But due to her family and her urge to protect them - and the fact that one way or another she feels like she has to be there - she can't. Even though they encourage her, and she's almost gone and done it several times, Brontë can never bring herself to be too far away; whether she's needed, or not. She is trying hard to let go of this habit, taking baby steps in the form of the vacations the sister take together, but all in all it's still being close to them in some way, and Brontë doesn't know if she can ever just go by herself.

Sour relationship with her parents - Despite the calm and collected woman she is today, Brontë spent a lot of her formative years rebelling against her parents and the way they sheltered her and her sisters. She protested and contested endlessly against their strangling decisions regarding their daughters. This has lead to an unspoken but very present tension between her and her parents that still lasts today, despite them being proud of her. The fact that she turned out just fine - and sane - is seen as a little bit of a 'in your face' thing towards them. In addition, she doesn't really believe in God - her belief has faded over the years - which doesn't bode well at all for Neil or Emily.

Grief - Although her own feelings are probably different and less intense than those of Ava's twin sister Arwen, Brontë has never gotten over Ava's death, and most likely never will. She tried to keep strong for her sister at the time, but she couldn't do much and it broke her heart that not only was Ava dead, Arwen was completely destroyed by what happened and she just couldn't do anything. That the monster who caused Ava's death got off easy only added weight on all those feelings and to this day it is something Brontë simply doesn't talk about (despite having named her gallery after Ava), because whenever she does, her eyes start filling with tears. She can't help it, someone took away one of her baby sisters and emotionally destroyed the other as well as her whole family to an extent. That is something that will always hurt as deeply as it did the first day.

No time for love - While it isn't permanently on Brontë's mind, she would really like to find love, settle down, maybe even have a family of her own. However, she is so focused on her work and her family that it hardly leaves her time for that; and it's not like she would actively look for love. To her it isn't something you look for, it's something that just happens. The problem is, adding to the work and family thing there is the fact that she can't seem to make a real connection with anyone and hasn't been in a relationship in years (probably since college). However much she'd like for this to happen it seems unlikely, and sometimes she really yearns for it.

Personal Strengths: Artist and Patron - Brontë is a great, even acclaimed, artist, very inspired and inspiring; knowing full well what struggles artists have to go through in order to live off their art - and knowing a lot of them, even if good, can't - she is very kind to the artists she promotes and does everything in her power to take care of them. This, in turn, makes them very grateful and almost willing to take a bullet for her should she need them to.

Good - Despite the hiccups in her relationship with her parents they raised her as well as all her other sisters, and Brontë turned out to be a very good, kind and helpful person. Just because she doesn't believe in God all that much, or enjoys the whole organized religion thing, it doesn't mean the values that Brontë herself think should be highly emphasized didn't get passed on to her.
the cruise ship
Passenger or Staff: Passenger
Traveling With: Her sisters Emilia and Arwen.
Contest Entry: Involuntary. She has no idea who entered her (her theory is that it was one of the artists whose work she exhibited in her gallery and who made their first big bucks), but she won the tickets and thought why not?

The Room
I Deck - 1012 - Light of Selene

Named for the original Titan goddess of the moon, this relaxing room is sure to make you feel at home. Lush pale blue carpet covers the floor, while the walls are painted white, and textured to look almost metallic or iridescent when the lighting is right. In the center of the main room hangs a crystal chandelier, with hanging glass beads shaped like crescent moons. The couch is midnight blue with silver accents, and rounded - it too is shaped like a crescent moon, though large enough to comfortably seat up to five people. There are two overstuffed armchairs (also in midnight blue and silver), and a centerpiece coffee table painted to show the different phases of the moon. The balcony doors are covered with sheer curtains.

The bathroom is done in shining midnight blue tile, with real silver accents on the counters and sink.

The bedroom’s decorating scheme matches the main room, and has a computer desk and queen sized bed. The linens are midnight blue. The most notable feature of this room is the ceiling - it too is a deep midnight blue, but there are hundreds of tiny fiber optic lights - representing stars in the night sky - and a hanging, glowing moon. All of it really lights up, and casts a soft glow through-out the room.
